To Sofia we went

The drive to Sofia was a long one! Although it was tiring and challenging due to driving best part of the journey in darkness on poorly lit and poorly signposted roads, with the constant worry about driving on a ban always in the back of my mind which I felt in extremes of total nerves before approaching a checkpoint and then total relief and exhilaration to pass through without being stopped.

The rest of the 6 hour drive gave me well needed space to get my head together and mull over the crazy events that had occurred in the last year which to me felt like a revelation that I had been stuck in a parallel universe in some kind of nightmare that I just couldn't quite believe myself had actually happened as I hadn't had the time before to even think properly about anything that was happening at the time in any real detail.

I laughed and I cried and I was not really sure about what I was feeling except that I was safe now which turned to sheer excitement when I finally passed the signs that welcomed me to Sofia.

It was about 10 ish and I found a place to park in a residential street that was as close as I could get to the British Embassy building.

I had no money for a room to stay or for food so I made a bed up in the back of the car and Lula and I cuddled up to go to sleep.
I couldnt sleep well though as I was so cold and Valeri was constantly calling me! Sofia was at least 10 degrees colder than the coast and after it being 20 degrees at night, it was now 10 degrees and I felt it sleeping in the car with just a thin duvet!

I finally answered the phone to Valeri and told him that I was in Sofia and going home to England. He was being nice and I ended up having a decent conversation with him about why I had to leave and he seemed to be accepting of the reasons that I had to leave him but told me that he would do whatever it took to change and to get me back. A part of me wished that he could change but I knew he never could!

The morning could not come quick enough for me so I could feel warmer and go to the British Embassy where I had pinned all my hopes on to be able to get me home to England.
